What is Microneedling?

Microneedling uses fine needles to make tiny, controlled punctures in the surface of the skin. We use the Dr Pen A11 Ultima PRO microneedling pen.

The aim is to encourage your skin's natural healing response. This includes making collagen and elastin, which help keep skin firm and smooth.

People often book microneedling for:

What results can I expect?

Results build gradually over a course of sessions. Changes in tone, texture and firmness tend to show in the weeks after each treatment, not straight away. Everyone's skin is different, so we can't promise a particular result.

The number of sessions depends on your skin and your goals. Kate will suggest a plan at your consultation, and there's no obligation to book a course.

How far apart are sessions?

Sessions are spaced four weeks apart. This gives your skin time to heal fully between treatments.

If this is your first microneedling treatment with us, you'll need a free 30-minute patch test and consultation at least 24 hours before your appointment.

Kate will apply a small amount of numbing cream to check for any sensitivity. She'll also look at your skin, talk through your goals and check the treatment is right for you.

Is Microneedling suitable for me?

Microneedling isn't suitable for everyone. For example, you can't have it if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, take blood-thinning medication, have severe acne or inflamed rosacea, or are allergic to nickel or stainless steel.

Some health conditions need a GP's letter first. You may also need to wait after other treatments such as Botox, fillers or laser.

What does the treatment involve?

Your 60-minute session takes place in our private studio in Fernwood. Kate applies numbing cream first to help keep you comfortable.

Once it has taken effect, she carries out the microneedling, adjusting the depth to suit your skin and goals. You'll leave with a personal aftercare plan.

What can I expect after treatment?

Your skin goes through a natural recovery process as it heals. Here's what to expect in the days after your appointment:

First hour: mild redness and small pinpoints
Up to 24 hours: redness or slight swelling
Days one to two: tight or dry skin
Days two to three: mild flaking
Days four to five: skin returns to normal

Your skin will be more sensitive to the sun for several days, so use SPF 30 or higher every day.

Any improvement in tone and texture appears gradually in the weeks after treatment.

Each 60-minute session is £60. The patch test and consultation are free. New clients get 20% off their first treatment, so your first session is £48.

Does microneedling hurt?

Kate applies numbing cream before treatment to help keep you comfortable. It can vary from a scratching to a vibrating sensation, depending on the area of your face.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on your skin and what you'd like to improve. Kate will suggest a plan at your consultation, and you can decide what suits you.

How long does it take to recover?

Most people see redness for up to 24 hours, then some dryness or flaking. Skin usually looks back to normal within four to five days.

When can I wear make-up after microneedling?

You should wait at least 24 to 48 hours before wearing makeup after microneedling.

Can I have microneedling if I take medication or have a health condition?
