Microneedling Contraindications

Microneedling is an effective skin treatment, but it is not suitable for everyone.
Please read the information below before booking.

Who Cannot Have Microneedling

You cannot have microneedling if you have any of the following:

  • Blood clotting problems (including haemophilia)

  • Severe acne or inflamed rosacea

  • Autoimmune or connective tissue conditions (such as lupus)

  • Skin conditions like solar keratosis

  • HIV or AIDS

  • Allergies to nickel or stainless steel

  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding

  • You are having chemotherapy or immune therapy

  • You take blood-thinning medication (including Warfarin or aspirin)

  • Long-term steroid use (such as Prednisone)

Conditions That Need GP Approval

You will need a doctor’s letter before treatment if you have:

  • Heart disease

  • High blood pressure controlled with medication

  • Cancer (within the last 12 months)

  • Insulin-dependent diabetes

Wait Until Skin Is Fully Healed

Please delay treatment if you have:

  • Active skin infections

  • Cold sores, warts, or broken skin

  • Sunburn or inflamed skin

If you are prone to cold sores, antiviral medication is advised before and after treatment.

Waiting Times After Other Treatments

You must wait if you have had treatment on the same area:

  • Facial surgery: 3 months

  • Roaccutane: 6 to 12 months

  • Tattooing or cosmetic tattooing: 3 months

  • Laser or IPL treatments: 2 weeks

  • Laser resurfacing: 8 weeks

  • Strong chemical peels: 2 weeks

  • Botox: 2 weeks

  • Dermal fillers: 2 to 6 weeks (depending on type)

Stop Using 1 Week Before Treatment

Please stop using the following at least 7 days before your appointment:

  • Fish oils and omega-3 supplements

  • Herbal supplements (such as ginseng or St John’s Wort)

  • Retinoids and exfoliating products

  • Benzoyl peroxide or topical antibiotics

  • Anti-inflammatory medication (such as ibuprofen)

  • Waxing or hair removal creams on the area

These can affect healing and results.

What to Expect After Treatment

  • First hour: Mild redness and small pinpoints

  • Up to 24 hours: Redness or slight swelling

  • 1 to 2 days: Tight or dry skin

  • 2 to 3 days: Mild flaking

  • 4 to 5 days: Skin returns to normal

Results improve over time, with clearer tone and smoother skin appearing in the weeks after treatment.
