What is lymphatic drainage massage?
Lymphatic drainage massage uses slow, light, rhythmic strokes. It is much gentler than a deep tissue or sports massage.
The aim is to encourage the natural movement of lymph. Lymph is a clear fluid that travels around your body through the lymphatic system.
Kate uses only her hands and a massage oil. There are no machines, suction cups or tools.
Why people book it
To relax. The slow, steady rhythm makes this a calm and restful treatment. Many simply book it as time for themselves.
When they feel puffy or heavy. Some clients book when they feel bloated, puffy or heavy-legged, for example after travel or long days on their feet. We can't promise a particular result, but we'll talk through how you're feeling before we start.
After cosmetic surgery. Others book a series of sessions while recovering from surgery such as a tummy tuck. There's more about this below.
Lymphatic drainage massage after surgery
We're happy to see clients after cosmetic surgery, but only with your doctor's or surgeon's OK. Please arrange this before you book, and always follow your surgeon's advice about when massage is safe to start.
If you're not sure whether it's right for you yet, get in touch and we'll talk it through.
What happens at your appointment
Before we start. You'll fill in a short health form. This includes any allergies, such as an allergy to massage oils. Kate will go through it with you and ask what you'd like from the session.
Getting comfortable. You undress to your underwear and lie on the treatment couch. You're covered with towels throughout, and only the area Kate is working on is uncovered.
The massage. In the 60-minute session, Kate works gently over the whole body using light, rhythmic strokes. The pressure is soft, and most people find it very relaxing.
Afterwards. Take your time getting up and dressed. Kate will give you simple aftercare advice before you leave.

It feels light and soothing. The pressure is much gentler than a normal massage, and it shouldn't hurt.
Is lymphatic drainage massage a detox?
We don't describe it as a detox, because that isn't something we can promise. Many clients book it because they feel puffy, sluggish or tense and want a gentle, relaxing massage.
What should I wear?
You undress to your underwear and are covered with towels throughout. Only the area being massaged is uncovered.
Can I have lymphatic drainage massage after a tummy tuck?
Yes, with your doctor's or surgeon's OK. Please arrange this before booking, and follow your surgeon's advice on when to start.
How often should I have it?
It's up to you. Some clients come weekly, especially after surgery, and others book now and then when they feel they need it.
Can I have it while pregnant?
No. We don't offer lymphatic drainage massage during pregnancy.
Do you treat lymphoedema?
No. Lymphoedema needs specialist care. Your GP can refer you to a lymphoedema service.
What's the difference between the 60 and 30-minute sessions?
The 60-minute session is a full-body massage. The 30-minute session is shorter and focuses on the areas you'd most like treated.
